It’s funny, once Granholm leaves, the boys in the house man-up and the nerd-in-chief grows fickle.

I have written extensively about the topic of the proposed coal plant by Wolverine Clean Energy in Rogers City, Michigan. I have made argument after argument in favor of this clean, efficient and technologically superior plant, and watched in disbelief as the liars and fact-twisters gained the upper-hand with the authoritative government of Granholm, under the guise of “helping the planet.”

It was not just the denial of the permit-to-install by the Granholm Administration that proved to be hard to take, it was the blatant disregard of the facts, and changing of the targets and standards.

Two power plants were denied last year, the one in Rogers City, Michigan, and the one in Holland, Michigan. A judge recently heard the case from the energy company in Holland, and agreed with them.

The utility challenged the ruling in court, saying the department’s decision was based on a Public Service Commission report that called the utility’s projections “overly optimistic,” not whether the application met federal clean air standards.

He ruled that the MDNRE has 60 days, which is the middle of February, to come up with a different ruling.

That ruling gave hope to the people in favor of the Wolverine Clean Energy Venture proposal in Rogers City. WCEV is suing the state because of the same reason, that, in essence, the State denied the permit based on future predictions of need, not science and the law. Wolverine asserted that the Executive Order Granholm issued in 2009 that directed the MPSC to be the decider for permits rather than the DEQ, was unconstitutional, and has former Attorney General Mike Cox as a plaintiff. Cox forced Granholm to rescind the order in the summer of 2009.

But new Governor Snyder, apparently happy to be on the side of the no-growth policies of the Sierra Club and other radical environmentalist groups, is appealing the decision.

Attorney General Bill Schuette filed paperwork this week indicating he will appeal Ottawa County Circuit Judge Jon Van Allsburg’s Dec. 15 ruling that the state’s denial of an air quality permit for an expansion of Holland’s James DeYoung plant was unconstitutional.

Our new Republican Governor is standing in the way of job creation, and is standing on the side of the malfeasance of Granholm. Our new supposedly conservative-to-the-core, Reagan-guy, Bill Schuette, is standing by this stupid appeal to do what? To protect his boss’s LCV endorsement? I don’t get it.

If Schuette is successful, the Rogers City Coal Plant is done for good, and the city of Holland will still be paying off attorneys to answer the ridiculous lawsuits brought by the environmentalists.

With radical environmentalism, the ends justify the means. They do whatever they need to to win. Right or wrong ,truth or lie, money is no object.

But beyond the action of appeal, there is another thing that cannot be ignored. The Democrats who just must have realized that they could speak up against a nerdy guy rather than an authoritative woman, have proudly declared that they are now in favor of coal plants. Can you guess why? The same reasoning that Wolverine and Holland is using to sue the state.

“Building a clean coal plant will create up to 5,000 jobs and help attract new employers to the state, and an approval process was established through energy reforms championed by House Dems in 2008. However, Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm’s administration added a layer of regulation that has blocked the building of two plants.”

Give the issue away, Rick. Smart move.

Meanwhile, where is Representative Peter Pettalia, and Senator Howard Walker? The battle is on, boys, let’s go!

The decision on the Wolverine case is still held up in a Missaukee County Court, and we don’t know what that court will rule. However, you can see that if it rules against the Granholm Administration, the Snyder Administration will appeal, as they are in Holland. If the Missaukee Court rules against Wolverine, there is nowhere left to go.

The issue is not coal and pollution. The DEQ already proved the Wolverine Plant would be so safe, the scientists would have no problem living in Rogers City with the plant in operation. Burning coal does not affect the earth’s climate. The issues are industry, jobs, energy, and logic.

If Schuette is successful in his appeal of the decision in Ottawa County regarding the James DeYoung power plant in Holland, it may well be the end of the Republican Party in Michigan.

And here we were off to such a great start…

After spending a good part of last year blogging for the man who would take the First District of Michigan away from liberal Bart Stupak, and put it back into the hands of mainstream conservatism, I take serious umbrage at the use of the words, “Stupak amendment” and “Stupak language.”

Bart Stupak was not a conservative Democrat, nor was he a “blue dog.” His “Stupak amendment” was actually the “Stupak/Pitts amendment,” and it became known as the “Stupak amendment” only because he was on television and radio constantly for a month prior to the vote on Obamacare saying that the bill would not be passed without “his” amendment, banning the use of federal funds for abortions. His constituency, and many social conservatives throughout the nation thought that Stupak was going to stop Obamacare. After watching Bart at town halls and on tv and radio, I knew he was not going to vote against Obamacare. He said so at a Cheboygan Town Hall, and took a position of high morality on abortion against the likes of Pelosi and Obama. He ended up getting a useless executive order which meant nothing from the most pro-abortion President this nation has ever seen.

So it really becomes too much when Fred Upton, a fellow Michigander and fellow Republican continues to use the words, “Stupak language,” and “Stupak amendment.”

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Congressman Upton was describing his intentions as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee:

We’re going to take up early I think the Stupak language, no funds shall be spent on abortion, as a separate bill early on. And we will look at these individual pieces to see if we can’t have the thing crumble.

Remember how we are supposed to defund the bill? Defund and repeal is the mantra.

Republicans in general are at a disadvantage when using the language. All too often, they use words and phrases that have been coined by liberal Democrats. But Congressman Upton decided to use Stupak’s name instead of say, “The Hyde language,” or “The Pitts amendment” and it is terribly grating. Why give credit to the actions of a Democrat who completely angered the entire nation, shining a light of truth on the pro-abortion stance of the Democrat party? It makes it sound as though Stupak was serious about stopping federal funding of abortion.

Stupak is thought of as a complete traitor to the anti-abortion movement, so much so, that the National Right to Life rescinded their near-20 year endorsement of him.

I have a problem with even inserting the language, because we are going to repeal this law. Upton ran on repealing the law, and the promise of repealing it is one of the reasons Dan Benishek won in Michigan’s First. I cannot understand why we would make it better and then repeal it. I am very anti-abortion, way more so than Upton, who has continually funded Planned Parenthood, and refused to recognize the murder of a pregnant woman as a double murder. So, my point is not to encourage the funding of abortion, but to show that the executive order is useless, and will keep Stupak’s name mud.

Could it be that Congressman Upton is interested in helping his former Michigan counterpart?

Beyond all the abortion talk, we as Republicans should not be tinkering around with this law. The Obamacare law has everything wrong with it, and to make this fight another debate about abortion again is irresponsible and cowardly. We do not want to pick up where the argument left off in March, we want to remember the American people and how they rose up against this monstrous power grab and complete disaster.

Fred Upton got the post he wanted in the House, as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Boehner gave him the job over massive objections from conservatives. Perhaps if Upton cries, he will convince some of them that he’s going to be a real stalwart.

JGillman of RightMichigan voices the concern that so many are thinking. Now that Upton got the post over all the objections, will he do what needs doing?

Judging from some of his responses to criticism, I’d say that’s a definite no.

He said he was going to Washington to repeal that healthcare law, then he agreed to support the insertion of Pitt’s Protect Life Act, and Smith’s No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act into the law. That’s called nibbling around the edges. The way the genius Republican leadership has been going, if the acts do end up being inserted, they will become known as the Stupak amendment for criminy’s sake. Why in the world would you say you were going to repeal it, but first change it a little to make it better, then repeal it? Does that make sense? Not only that, but Upton’s record on abortion is abysmal, so this move is actually a sop to the conservatives, because Upton is a liberal, not a conservative.

So, forgive me if I have no faith in him. The problem is, his very state is at the center of one of the largest battles for survival it has ever seen. He needs boot camp, and he needs it fast.

If everyone is feeling calmed by the Republicans taking over Michigan, let me jar you. There are far too many of those Republicans that buy into the Climate Change/Global Warming hoax, and thanks to their bipartisan efforts, Granholm has pinned the state down to the most destructive energy paths we have ever seen, and we don’t have the money to comply with it.

What are we doing here?

Fred, pal, listen. I don’t believe you have it in you to be tough on the EPA after your family’s company Whirlpool got such a tidy sum helping us all green the planet. I don’t believe you are strong enough to fight the Sierra Club, and the Environmental Law people and on and on. You are not a real “get your hands dirty” kind of guy, and your tough talk isn’t fooling anybody. But if you really want to save your career, your state and your country, you’ll find the strength.

Do you know what you should do? Talk to Sarah Palin. Palin knows a lot about energy, it is one of her signature issues. Oh, and I was just joking about crying earlier, don’t cry. Sarah wouldn’t cry.
