You can find Romney’s flip-flops on abortion and a slew of other issues by surfing youtube. He’s all over the place on just about every issue.

This 30 second clip spans from 1994 to 2002, where he was adamantly focused on preserving a woman’s right to choose, and then when running for President, says he is pro-life.

Let me help you out. For many liberal Republicans, being pro-life now means that they support the Supreme Court’s decision that legalized abortion, and that since they can’t do a thing about it, they look to minimizing the amount of abortions.

That’s not pro-life, that’s pro-abortion. When you start the discussion with, ‘well, abortion is legal after all,’ and not understand how it came to be legal, and how, if put to a vote, it would be outlawed, and ignore the fact that it is murder of an innocent life, you lose the base of your party.

This video thoroughly shows that Mitt Romney did not “change his views on abortion.” It clearly shows that he is pro-choice. One does not become pro-life after being so very adamantly pro-choice.

Shame on those Mitt backers in Michigan who will look at his fundraising, and his current lead in the GOP race for POTUS and defend his views on abortion.

Shame on those Mitt backers in Michigan who agree with his stance, which ever it is, or was, or will be. He’s a fraud.

For those GOP women who are pro-choice, perhaps you don’t know the truth, I suppose that is possible, but I know some of you, and I know you simply do not want to see the truth for what it is.

Abortion is murder. Plain and simple. And in this nation, abortion has never come up for a vote by the people, nor their representatives. It was forced upon us by Planned Parenthood, and an activist judicial system. Planned Parenthood and the Democratic Party walk hand in hand. Planned Parenthood is the Democratic Party’s sacred cow. Planned Parenthood brought the cases before the Supreme Court in order to get a decision on “the right to privacy.”

Romney does not know this, nor does he care, he is simply posturing, and that’s all he does. With the wrong people around him, he will ruin the Republican Party if elected President.

After spending a good part of last year blogging for the man who would take the First District of Michigan away from liberal Bart Stupak, and put it back into the hands of mainstream conservatism, I take serious umbrage at the use of the words, “Stupak amendment” and “Stupak language.”

Bart Stupak was not a conservative Democrat, nor was he a “blue dog.” His “Stupak amendment” was actually the “Stupak/Pitts amendment,” and it became known as the “Stupak amendment” only because he was on television and radio constantly for a month prior to the vote on Obamacare saying that the bill would not be passed without “his” amendment, banning the use of federal funds for abortions. His constituency, and many social conservatives throughout the nation thought that Stupak was going to stop Obamacare. After watching Bart at town halls and on tv and radio, I knew he was not going to vote against Obamacare. He said so at a Cheboygan Town Hall, and took a position of high morality on abortion against the likes of Pelosi and Obama. He ended up getting a useless executive order which meant nothing from the most pro-abortion President this nation has ever seen.

So it really becomes too much when Fred Upton, a fellow Michigander and fellow Republican continues to use the words, “Stupak language,” and “Stupak amendment.”

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Congressman Upton was describing his intentions as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee:

We’re going to take up early I think the Stupak language, no funds shall be spent on abortion, as a separate bill early on. And we will look at these individual pieces to see if we can’t have the thing crumble.

Remember how we are supposed to defund the bill? Defund and repeal is the mantra.

Republicans in general are at a disadvantage when using the language. All too often, they use words and phrases that have been coined by liberal Democrats. But Congressman Upton decided to use Stupak’s name instead of say, “The Hyde language,” or “The Pitts amendment” and it is terribly grating. Why give credit to the actions of a Democrat who completely angered the entire nation, shining a light of truth on the pro-abortion stance of the Democrat party? It makes it sound as though Stupak was serious about stopping federal funding of abortion.

Stupak is thought of as a complete traitor to the anti-abortion movement, so much so, that the National Right to Life rescinded their near-20 year endorsement of him.

I have a problem with even inserting the language, because we are going to repeal this law. Upton ran on repealing the law, and the promise of repealing it is one of the reasons Dan Benishek won in Michigan’s First. I cannot understand why we would make it better and then repeal it. I am very anti-abortion, way more so than Upton, who has continually funded Planned Parenthood, and refused to recognize the murder of a pregnant woman as a double murder. So, my point is not to encourage the funding of abortion, but to show that the executive order is useless, and will keep Stupak’s name mud.

Could it be that Congressman Upton is interested in helping his former Michigan counterpart?

Beyond all the abortion talk, we as Republicans should not be tinkering around with this law. The Obamacare law has everything wrong with it, and to make this fight another debate about abortion again is irresponsible and cowardly. We do not want to pick up where the argument left off in March, we want to remember the American people and how they rose up against this monstrous power grab and complete disaster.

Fred Upton got the post he wanted in the House, as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Boehner gave him the job over massive objections from conservatives. Perhaps if Upton cries, he will convince some of them that he’s going to be a real stalwart.

JGillman of RightMichigan voices the concern that so many are thinking. Now that Upton got the post over all the objections, will he do what needs doing?

Judging from some of his responses to criticism, I’d say that’s a definite no.

He said he was going to Washington to repeal that healthcare law, then he agreed to support the insertion of Pitt’s Protect Life Act, and Smith’s No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act into the law. That’s called nibbling around the edges. The way the genius Republican leadership has been going, if the acts do end up being inserted, they will become known as the Stupak amendment for criminy’s sake. Why in the world would you say you were going to repeal it, but first change it a little to make it better, then repeal it? Does that make sense? Not only that, but Upton’s record on abortion is abysmal, so this move is actually a sop to the conservatives, because Upton is a liberal, not a conservative.

So, forgive me if I have no faith in him. The problem is, his very state is at the center of one of the largest battles for survival it has ever seen. He needs boot camp, and he needs it fast.

If everyone is feeling calmed by the Republicans taking over Michigan, let me jar you. There are far too many of those Republicans that buy into the Climate Change/Global Warming hoax, and thanks to their bipartisan efforts, Granholm has pinned the state down to the most destructive energy paths we have ever seen, and we don’t have the money to comply with it.

What are we doing here?

Fred, pal, listen. I don’t believe you have it in you to be tough on the EPA after your family’s company Whirlpool got such a tidy sum helping us all green the planet. I don’t believe you are strong enough to fight the Sierra Club, and the Environmental Law people and on and on. You are not a real “get your hands dirty” kind of guy, and your tough talk isn’t fooling anybody. But if you really want to save your career, your state and your country, you’ll find the strength.

Do you know what you should do? Talk to Sarah Palin. Palin knows a lot about energy, it is one of her signature issues. Oh, and I was just joking about crying earlier, don’t cry. Sarah wouldn’t cry.

Uh oh.

Fred Upton, a Republican from Michigan, is insisting he is worthy to chair the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and has written an Op Ed in the Washington Examiner titled, “Rep. Fred Upton: A new majority for America.” In it, he describes what he will do if in fact he is chosen as chair, and reiterates his manly chainsaw approach to the budget, and unfortunately, uses the words, “shine the spotlight” on the Obama-Pelosi regulatory policies.

Hang on, check the spotlight bulb first, is it the government-mandated type?

But the kicker was when he said,

“I also look forward to working with my fellow pro-life colleagues to protect the sanctity of life, beginning with the passage of Rep. Joseph Pitts’ Protect Life Act and Rep. Christopher Smith’s No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”

Hang on, gotta check another link. Wait, Mr. Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee points out that Upton’s Pro-Life record is abysmal, voting against Pence’s legislation to cut off funding of Planned Parenthood twice.

“Johnson goes on to highlight Upton’s votes for cloning, embryonic stem-cell research, and the abortion drug RU-486. Johnson also points out Upton’s record on the unborn victims’ of violence act:

During the Administration of President George W. Bush, one of the major pro-life debates in Congress was over this question: If, during commission of a violent federal crime, a criminal attacks a pregnant woman and kills her unborn child, does that crime have one victim, or two? Polls showed that about 80% of the public said “two victims,” but Mr. Upton’s answer was “one victim” – he twice voted for the Lofgren Substitute, which would have codified the doctrine that such a crime has only one victim”

The Weekly Standard posts the entire letter from Douglas Johnson to the House Republican Steering Committee. Johnson points out,

“Throughout his career in the House, Mr. Upton has been a strong defender of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.”

After reading that piece in the the Weekly Standard, Nolan Finley looks like a fool in his, ‘What a great pal Fred is,’ post in Sunday’s Detroit News.

Finley points out that Upton says he’s a conservative and votes with the GOP leadership nearly 100 percent of the time. Well, to quote my mechanic, “there’s your problem right there.”

It is the duty of conservatives to be conservatives first, and unfortunately, Upton is a Republican first, who is not conservative, even though he uses words like cut and chainsaw.

Upton’s record clearly shows he is liberal, and many people I know would call him a RINO, but the idea that he is being considered for the Chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee after all that has come to light is unreal.

Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington has suggested this week that the Energy Committee be enveloped by his Resources Committee for many reasons, which would moot the rejection of Upton altogether.

According to the Houston Chronicle, there are four “contenders to the top Energy job- Reps. Fred Upton of Michigan, John Shimkus of Illinois, Cliff Stearns of Florida and Barton” of Texas. Barton is term-limited by the House’s own rules, but is seeking a waiver from his colleagues to run again. Barton made news during the BP oil spill this summer, when he apologized to BP for the government’s “shakedown.” Barton was immediately back-handed by the leadership and was forced to apologize for his comments lest he lose his committee seat on the Energy Committee. But, Barton’s comment was right by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, who denounced the leadership for reprimanding Barton. It is believed Cantor and Boehner forced him to apologize, and they are still in charge.

Incidentally, Barton has a 94% rating from the American Conservative Union, Shimkus has an 88% rating, Stearns has a 94% rating and Upton, a 72% rating.

Freedom Works has posted a website titled, “Down With Upton!” that points out his non-conservative leanings and sends visitors to call members of the GOP Steering Committee and to sign a petition against Upton.

It raises more questions. Gary McDowell voted for it, along with all the Republicans and most of the Democrats, which highlights the baggage problem most career politicians are having this election year.

Interesting, from The Corner blog, National Review Online:

Will Stupak Be Silenced by Executive Order? [Daniel Foster]

There are whispers that the Majority are working on an executive order with Stupak-like language in an attempt to pacify pro-life Democrats.

UPDATE: Rep. Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) tells reporters that an executive order is under consideration.

Although, an executive order promising that the law will not fund abortions from the most pro-abortion President this country has ever seen is kind of laughable.

If Stupak is promised this by Obama, it would be both incredible and unbelievable at the same time.

But it would give Stupak the conscience to vote for the bill, even though he is relying on a man with no conscience.

Bart Stupak is in quite a bit mud right now, but he has postured himself on the abortion issue amongst his party, and his party is decidedly pro-abortion.

He is facing a primary challenge by a pro-abortion Democrat, and since he just lost the issue of corrections resolution, it comes down to how vicious the pro-aborts will be leading up to the primary.

If Stupak votes yes on this debacle of a bill, not to mention the unconstitutional premise, he will face defeat in November, because of his promise to his constituents that he would not cave on abortion funding.

If he votes no and subsequently kills the bill, he faces being ousted in the primary, which is possible because his female challenger is bringing massive NARAL funding into the district.

So, it comes down to a yes vote with many guarantees of funding which will haunt him in the summer when Tom Coburn shines the spotlight on all yes votes and what they received to secure the passage of the bill.

Or a no vote and face being ousted by his own party.

Since Stupak is a key liberal voter that votes mostly with Pelosi, and is close with Waxman and Markey, the only issue that his primary challenger would bring to Pelosi’s House is abortion. Which is useless in a minority.

The only way Michigan’s First District remains blue is if Stupak votes no.

But, regardless what he votes, The Democrats will lose the House.

Last night it was announced that Bart Stupak will hold a press conference today at 11 am to talk about the abortion language in the health care bill.

He has been in talks with Nancy Pelosi about the abortion funding language in the Senate bill and has offered a piece of legislation he calls a “corrections resolution” which would strike the current abortion language in the Senate bill, and would have a separate vote than the reconciliation vote planned for tomorrow. Pelosi signaled that such a vote would be taken before or after the reconciliation vote.

I’m not sure what he will say at the press conference, but if he stands in front of that microphone and starts to talk about how pro-life he is, he will be signaling that he will not vote for the reconciliation bill on Sunday to save his butt in November.

I have noticed on the Congressman’s website that he announced a new grant, and jobs legislation yesterday in his district.

Stupak Announces $726,409 for Airports in Alpena, Delta and Chippewa Counties

3/19/2010 | WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced three airports in northern Michigan have received grants totaling $726,409 for airport maintenance and improvements. The funding was provided by read more »

Stupak Statement on Michigan Legislation to Reinforce Public Trust for Great Lakes

Stupak Attends Signing of Targeted Jobs Bill

3/19/2010 | WASHINGTON – Legislation marking another step forward for job creation was signed into law Thursday at a White House Rose Garden ceremony. U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee), a vocal read more »

There is continued speculation in the district that he will announce that the Rogers City Wolverine Clean Energy Venture will qualify for the second round of federal carbon capture funding to ease a path toward the air quality permit that is delayed now for 2 1/2 years to be granted by the state.

These funding grants for his district, along with a no vote on the health care reform bill could help him keep his seat this fall.

That way, he steers clear of any funding spotlight that Tom Coburn, a fellow congressman has promised to shine on any Democrat yes vote on the reconciliation bill.

However, if he thinks he has a deal with Pelosi to accept his “corrections resolution” and he votes yes to the reconciliation bill because of it, 40 Democrat female pro-abort legislators have threatened to hold out on the reconciliation bill because of the lack of abortion funding in the bill. Which of course debunks the idea the the Senate bill has no abortion funding in it as Catholics United has been claiming in television ads heavily blanketing the district.

I don’t know, but my guess is that these female legislators will not hold out if Pelosi promises them that the “corrections resolution” will either not pass or not be left in the final bill to be signed by President Obama.

Stupak’s proposed extra legislation faces parliamentary problems, so the idea that his “corrections resolution” will hold or even be voted upon is quite questionable.

Then of course, the act of voting on the reconciliation amendment package is put in the place of actually voting for the Senate bill.

The House doesn’t want to vote for the Senate bill, it will be said to be “deemed passed” with the vote on the amendment package.

Which of course is unconstitutional.

Further, if the President signs a bill on Sunday because reconciliation passes, it will be the Senate bill without the amendment package, because the Senate would have to then vote on the amendment package from the house.

So, if as a result of voting in favor of the reconciliation package on Sunday, Stupak gets a promise that there is no abortion funding in the bill he voted on, he will have neither voted on a bill, nor taken the abortion funding out of it.

And, if the President signs a bill on Sunday, it will be unconstitutional.

Update: Stupak’s Press Conference to be held off indefinitely?

T @gretawire: Just in: Congressman Stupak just cancelled his press conference..

CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) – A Michigan congressman who’s been fighting for stricter curbs on abortion in federal health care legislation is being challenged in the August Democratic primary.

Connie Saltonstall of Charlevoix says she’ll run against Rep. Bart Stupak of Menominee. Saltonstall says Stupak has “a right to his personal religious views” but says it’s “reprehensible” to let them block health care reform.

Stupak’s office declined immediate comment Tuesday. Stupak won approval of an amendment to health care legislation banning use of federal funds for abortions. He says abortion limits in a Senate-passed version of the legislation are too weak.

Saltonstall is an ex-teacher and ex-Charlevoix County commissioner.
