Governor Snyder, it seems, is betting that the price of gas will continue to rise, and people will then buy more fuel and vehicles.

His new plan to raise more revenue for roads consists of getting rid of the current 19 cent State tax on gas and replacing it with an additional $40 per year to register your vehicle, and tax the wholesale price of gasoline.

If the wholesale price of gas is taxed, and then consumers have to pay a sales tax on gas, the increase in revenue generated depends on the increase in gas prices.

Who wants gas prices to go up? The national debate on this is centered around more domestic drilling in order to decrease the cost of gas at the pump.

It seems to me, that if America becomes more sane in the way it produces it’s own fuels, the less money we will have for roads here in Michigan.

Most new roads built in Michigan are being funded by a one-time stimulus from the Federal Government, that has now set a higher bar in being able to fund future projects. If the consumer wins with lower gas prices, they lose with worse roads, according to this plan.

We should be working toward more drilling, more domestic oil-production, more domestic oil-refining and less regulations. Just doing that will increase the tax revenue for the roads in the State of Michigan, because people will be working more, driving more, buying more fuel, and becoming happy little consumers once again.

On a side note, right now, registration for vehicles in Michigan is based on the price of the vehicle when it was new. If you have a used vehicle, no matter what shape it is in now, you are still forking over upwards of $100 per year to register it. That is hard for lower-income working families with teens, especially since most families have two or more vehicles. Adding another $40 on to that in your birthday month is not friendly. Sure, you will pay 19 cents less per gallon, but since Snyder is betting the price will continue to rise, it is not too reassuring.

Seven years ago, Muskegon County officials tossed the concept of placing wind turbines on the county’s massive wastewater into the wind.

First thought: The shit is about to hit the fan! *ba-dump-ching!

Actually, the only problem I have with these great wind ideas is that they are useless in terms of creating enough energy and jobs to bother with. It looks like they have plenty of land there to build a coal plant. Coal is cheaper and abundant and wind energy works only when the wind is blowing and really not that well when it is.

Go ahead and build, the Musky Fathers have guaranteed themselves $100,000, that’s good for them.

My current Senator from Michigan, Howard Walker, is suggesting that roadwork could be better completed if the current 19 cent gas tax in Michigan would be discontinued and an increase in sales tax by 1% be implemented. Michigan currently has a 6% sales tax.

The change would mean an additional $154 million in revenue for roads, according to Walker. Citing loss of gas tax revenue and difficulty in managing since less gas is being used, Walker believes his solution would be more stable.

That is, of course until sales drop.

Although I’d like the gas tax done away with, it was only a year ago that a Republican from Michigan suggested an increase in gas taxes, and now Governor Snyder is looking to do away with the 19 cent gas tax and replace it with a wholesale gas tax.

Every time gas prices go up, due to the 6% sales tax, Michigan tax revenue goes up, but, that money doesn’t go to roads right now, the 19 cent tax is supposed to.

So this sets up a difference in how we think roads get paved. If we all pay the sales taxes on everything, we are all paying for the roads, supposedly.

My reaction is, just use the money to build good roads as cheaply as you can, stop mixing the money, stop taking Federal tax dollars that create a base line that we cannot find enough money to cover in future years. Also, oppose all environmentalist greed because if not for them, gas wouldn’t be so costly, asphalt wouldn’t be so costly, everything made from fossil fuels would be cheaper.

This quote made my blood boil a bit:

Ed Noyola, deputy director of the County Road Association of Michigan, questioned whether the tax swap would potentially make getting additional revenue in the future difficult, because it would require a ballot proposal and vote of the people.

“Right now, the legislature can decided when to raise those fees,” Noyola said.

Oh God forbid! The people may not want to increase their taxes and make you work within your means? A vote of the people! What in the world? Perish the thought!

You can find Romney’s flip-flops on abortion and a slew of other issues by surfing youtube. He’s all over the place on just about every issue.

This 30 second clip spans from 1994 to 2002, where he was adamantly focused on preserving a woman’s right to choose, and then when running for President, says he is pro-life.

Let me help you out. For many liberal Republicans, being pro-life now means that they support the Supreme Court’s decision that legalized abortion, and that since they can’t do a thing about it, they look to minimizing the amount of abortions.

That’s not pro-life, that’s pro-abortion. When you start the discussion with, ‘well, abortion is legal after all,’ and not understand how it came to be legal, and how, if put to a vote, it would be outlawed, and ignore the fact that it is murder of an innocent life, you lose the base of your party.

How do you like this? All this talk that we will default August 2nd, which we already proved is not the case, is KNOWN BS by Obama.

He is telling bankers that there will be no default if the ceiling is not raised.

“While officials from the Obama Administration raised their rhetoric over the weekend about the possibility of a debt default if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, they privately have been telling top executives at major U.S. banks that such an event won’t happen, FOX Business has learned.”

This is after Obama has been suggesting that SS checks may not go out, and Geithner appears on the Sunday News shows warning that default is imminent.

Fox Business has the report.
